Culturally Enriching Courses You Should Take This Winter

Are you looking for an opportunity to catch up, get ahead or knock out a general education course? EKU offers a variety of courses you can take during the winter term, including courses to expand your worldview. From African/African American studies to Women and Gender studies, here are a few courses to consider: 

1) AFA 201 The Africana Experience

Learn more about the culture, history and the political experiences of African people. 

2) ANT 120 Intro to Cultural Anthropology

Enhance your understanding of culture-related concepts, such as the development of generalizations about social, economic, political and ritual organization, based on comparative study of various societies. This course also includes a brief survey of linguistics.

3) SOC 131 Introductory Sociology

Learn more about the principles in sociology, such as socialization, groups and interaction, social structure and institutions (family, education, religion, politics, economics), crime/deviance, social inequalities (race, class, gender) and sociological research. 

4) SPA 101 Conversational Spanish l

This course will be conducted in Spanish. Students with little to no previous study of Spanish will learn more about communicating in Spanish, while also being introduced to cultural diversity of the Spanish-speaking world.

5) WGS 201 Intro to Women & Gender Studies

Get an introduction into a versatile field of women's, gender and sexuality studies and feminist scholarship. This course also provides an overview of the intersectionality of gendered experiences and issues from a wide variety of perspectives.
